Proceedings of the Fifth International Technical Symposium on Deepwater Oil and Gas Engineering

This book is a compilation of selected papers from the Fifth International Technical Symposium on Deepwater Oil and Gas Engineering and the Fourth International Youth Forum on Gas Hydrate (DWOG-Hyd 2023), held in Qingdao, China, in October 2023. The book focuses on the advancement of techniques for the deepwater oil and gas exploitation and natural gas hydrate exploitation. The book introduces new ideas for exploring deepwater oil, gas and hydrate in a safe and efficient way. Advances of the deepwater oil, gas and hydrate drilling and production in South China Sea, in oil and gas flow assurance and emerging technologies based on clathrate hydrate will be presented. It is a valuable resource for both practitioners and academics working in the field of deepwater oil and gas engineering.

Prof. Baojiang Sun received his B.E. and M.E. degrees in Drilling Engineering from China University of Petroleum (East China) in 1985 and 1991, respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree of Fluid Mechanic from Peking University in 1999 and completed his postdoc training in Shengli Oil Field Company SINOPEC in 2003. He was promoted to Professor with exceptional promotion in 1999.
He is Chair Professor in the School of Petroleum Engineering and Director of the Offshore Engineering Research Institute in China University of Petroleum (East China).
He focuses on the teaching and research of Oil and Gas Drilling Engineering, Offshore Petroleum Engineering and Multiphase Flow Theory & Application. He has undertaken projects of the Key Research Projects supported by National Natural Science Foundation, National Supporting Plan Issue, National Major Projects of Oil and Gas Field and Projects from CNPC, SINOPEC, and CNOOC.
Prof. Jinsheng Sun received his B.S. in Chemistry from Jiangxi Normal University, Nanchang, China, in 1985, and M.S. in Organic Chemistry from Nankai University, Tianjin, China, in 1988, and Ph.D. in Applied Chemistry from Southwest Petroleum University, Chengdu, in 2006. Since 2009, He was cited as Senior Engineer of drilling Engineeringin China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). Since 2016, He has been worked in China University of Petroleum (East China) as Professor. In 2017, he was elected as Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.
He focuses on the innovation of oil-gas well engineering theory and technology. He has successively undertaken 53 projects in the field of drilling engineering, including major project and key project of NSFC, National 863 Project, National Major Science and Technology Projects. He successfully proposed the theory of chemical film-forming of water-based drilling fluid at the first time and invented a novel chemical film-forming water-based drilling fluid.
Dr. Zhiyuan Wang received his B.E. and Ph.D. degrees in Oil and Gas Well Engineering from China University of Petroleum (East China) in 2004 and 2009, respectively. Since 2016, He has been Professor in School of Petroleum Engineering, China University of Petroleum (East China).
He received the Outstanding Youth Foundation from National Natural Science Foundation in 2016. He was also rewarded as Youth Scholar of Yangtze River in the Ministry of Education in 2017 and Leading talents of science and technology innovation in the National 'Ten Thousand Talents Plan' in 2019. He has published over 100 peer-viewed technical papers in Chinese and International journals, 4 professional books in Chinese and English, and held 28 Chinese patents, 3 American patents and 12 software copyrights.
Dr. Litao Chen received his B.E. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from China University of Petroleum (Beijing) in 2004 and 2011, respectively. Before joining the School of Petroleum Engineering in China University of Petroleum (East China) at 2015, he completed his postdoc training in the Steacie Institute of Molecular Science of National Research Council Canada (2011-2012) and the Center for Hydrate Research of Colorado School of Mines (2012-2015). He was promoted to Associated Professor in 2016.
